Dear Members and friends of the Taranaki Swiss Club,

On the March 1st 2010 we held our 58th Annual General Meeting with a very pleasing attendance. Currently our membership stands at 268, a substantial increase on last year, which is a good sign!!! To those of you who have recently joined, we hope that you will enjoy some of our functions and activities. The Swiss Club has a very hard-working committee, and I am very appreciative of their continued, loyal support. At the AGM, all committee members stood for re-election, and I appreciate your dedication to our Club. Thanks to Zeno and Marianne for their great work, and also a special thank you to our wonderful grounds man, Johnny … you do a terrific job!!! My grateful thanks to the sub-committee chairs for their good work and big thanks to Zeno, Peter Canziani and team for the great music they provide!!! Sadly, during the past year a few members passed away – Fred Rogers, Lou Nolly (last Founding Member), Eileen Dorflinger and Anna Steiner.

The majority of our functions have been very well supported, and your committee appreciates your efforts in attending. The 1st August was well-run in our absence, with the William Tell play thoroughly enjoyed by all attending, thanks to Martin Hess and his team. On 14th February we held our Annual Picnic with an attendance of approximately 300 people; this event has so far been the highlight of my Presidency, with a big crowd enjoying a great atmosphere. The kiddies amusements have helped create a wonderful family day; thank you very much to Reg and Rose Tecofsky for their huge effort with the bouncy castle and merry-go round. For many the highlight of our picnic is the schwingen, with 26 participants ranging from midgets to seniors. Thank you all for competing.

On 17th April Dr Beat Nobs (Ambassador of Switzerland) and his family will be in Taranaki and we are taking this opportunity to hold our popular fondue evening as a farewell function for them. I hope to see many of you at this function.

We have enclosed a calendar of events, showing another full programme for the coming year, and we appreciate you making the effort to support as many of them as possible. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Regards, Othmar Hebler (President)
